Too Little? Not Too Late

It's hard to believe it's already THAT time again...portfolio time!

Do not despair! Although it may feel like the end of the year is advancing towards you quickly, it is only just past the half way mark in our ten month school year. Your children  have more than enough time to learn, practice and experience the topics and skills written in their educational plans.

  • It's not too late to reread your Student Learning Plans to see if you are still on track.
  • It's not too late to change curricula if yours isn't working or it's lacking.
  • It's not too late to begin to set up a regular journaling or freewriting time in your schedule, to help your children practice getting thoughts on paper.
  • It's not too late to begin using those online subscriptions you excitedly signed up for at the beginning of the year.
  • It's not too late to check out all the wonderful resources in the HCOS Learning Commons.
  • It's not too late to go to the library and discover those picture books and videos which will enhance the topics you are studying.
  • It's not too late to schedule time for math or sight word drills/games.
  • It's not too late to do some meaningful writing with your children - write emails, send homemade birthday cards, write a letter to a relative, journal, find a pen or email pal, begin blogging.
  • It's not too late to make up a schedule that actually works for your family (most days).
  • It's not too late to do a co op lesson now and then with some friends.
  • It's not too late to back track if you see learning gaps in your child's math, reading, or writing skills.
  • It's not too late to have your children read aloud  several times per week.
  • It's not too late to take a day off once in a while, and just play games!
  • It's not too late to attend field trips, learning camps, or a homeschool co op.
  • It's not too late to begin art or music lessons.
  • It's not too late to join a kids fitness or dance class.
  • It's not too late to sign up for an online course.
  • It's not too late to regularly keep in contact with your support teacher. :)
It's really not too late. Choose the activities which are most important to you and the success of your child and write them down. Remember to schedule the most important activities earlier in the day (you may have to change things up now and then), and you will have a greater chance of accomplishing them!
