NanoWriMo -- what?!

Have you heard of National Novel Writing Month? This is a 30 day worldwide online writing challenge encouraging writers to 'silence their inner writing critic' and simply write as much as they can. For those 13 years and older, that's 50,000 words in one month, namely the month of November. As crazy as it sounds, it is a lot of fun and an excellent learning experience.

If your young writers, (aged K to 17 years of age) would like to challenge themselves to write a story in November (the number of words is up to parents/children to decide), check out the Young Writers' Program at this interesting link. It has all the information you will need to begin.

This is a great way to encourage children to get their thoughts on paper without worrying about spelling and 'how good' their story is. The important editing process(if desired)comes later.

If you decide to take the challenge, please let me know and I'll be sure to add this information to your student's Learning Plan. If not this year, keep this in mind for next! :)
